The visit to the Gaudí Crypt is much more than a simple visit to one of the great works of Gaudí, is also to understand the work in its historical, social and sociological context thanks to an environment that has endured over time without major changes.

The importance of the church in Colonia Güell Gaudí’s work because it is the first time using unitarily its architectural innovations. Such com is Gaudí himself said if he had completed had been “a monumental model of the Sagrada Família”.

In the church we find the catenary arches which, while simplifying the problem of loads, determine the use of exterior walls shaped hyperbolic paraboloid. In this same spirit of integration dynamic and fluid treatment of the interior space or mechanisms merging the building with the natural environment adapting different levels of the ships to the slope of the hill and materials are of similar colors and textures to the ground should and vegetation.

All these contributions are original solutions that respond to the will of synthesis of structural planning, construction techniques and architectural forms, but also enriched with the aesthetic and symbolic value of the purely ornamental elements. The church of the Colonia Guell also includes numerous examples of Gaudí domain of applied arts, both as regards the furniture elements as the purely ornamental.

colonia-guell
